My fellow American's, my name is Abraham Lincoln and I am here today to speak to you about why the Realism time period in Literature was such an important time for the students of today to continue to study (I am honest and never lie). This time period is such a major part in history as well, being this is when the American Civil War took place. During the Civil War, many of the soldiers wrote journals about their journey throughout the war, which led to many books taking this form of "journal writing." People were also able to see, in writing, the point of view from soldiers from both the north and the south. This type of writing became very famous, especially when writing about the Civil War itself. Also, the issue on the abolishment of slavery was an important part of literature. Since many black males served as soldiers in the army for both the North and the South during the war, the journals they kept aloud people to see how the war was fought from their side of the story. Once the war ended, books just about the war in general came from everywhere! Even during the war, books about the war were being published. After the war is when racism became to grow because this is when blacks began to gain rights, and students need to learn how blacks gained their rights! The American Civil War most definitely had the biggest impact on the literature between 1850 and 1900. Now, go get a book about the Civil War and read up on your history! And remember, I am always honest and can never tell a lie.
